What excitement as the family expands and we participate in the blossoming and nurturing of new life.

In anticipation, I cast about for what to be called – never having had grandparents, I decided to call myself what I would have called my grandmother, had she survived the Holocaust in Europe. That would have been in Yiddish, the primary language of my family in Poland before the war. When I discovered how difficult it was for non-Yiddish speakers to pronounce the particular O sound of Bobe, not Bubbie, or Baba, I realized that the sound does not exist in English. After much tripping and forgetting over the new sound, it now fits, and we keep a bit of a thread to our roots..
